Junior Mafia

Junior Mafia

Thanks to the Notorious B.I.G., nearly every hip-hop head is aware of Junior M.A.F.I.A. The groups name has been constantly heard on various album and stage shout-outs, evoking thoughts of something powerful, connected, and even dangerous.

Junior M.A.F.I.A. – Junior Masters At Finding Intelligent Attitudes – is the tight-knit clique based out of the Bed-Stuy area of Brooklyn, NY. All members are apprentices in microphone destruction under the careful guidance of their childhood homie and raps newest don, The Notorious B.I.G. While in pursuit of stardom, the multi-platinum-selling B.I.G. always maintained that his extended hip-hop family would one day share the spotlight with him. Hes kept his word by introducing Junior M.A.F.I.A. to the world with their Undeas Entertainment/ Big Beat/ Atlantic debut, CONSPIRACY.

Though known as a group, JM can also be viewed as a lifestyle in which young people take control of their destinies. And while theyre all peers, B.I.G. remains the groups undisputed leader urging his crew to similarly become leaders in the future. We admire B.I.G. for taking us up from the street with him, states Junior M.A.F.I.A.s Klepto. He didnt have to do it. You gotta give him props for that.

Apart from their slammin sound, another unique aspect of JM is that the crew, with no one over the age of twenty, is divided into four separate acts with four very different personalities: *The 6s (666) is comprised of Little Caesar, Chico, and Nino Brown. They could best be described as the mischievous side of B.I.G., but in the end they know right from wrong and practice it. * The Snakes are the no-joke duo of cousins Trife and Larceny. They offer a flipside of the coin, representing the enraged, deadly attitude expressed in an alarming number of Americas youth. * Solo MC Klepto lives up to his name and delivers no-holds-barred lyrical escapades of boostin and hustling.

* 47 MC Little Kim (AKA Big Momma) functions as the lieutenant for JM. She provides the all-too-rare view of ghetto life from a young female caught amid the insanity falling all around her.

In describing the collective make-up of Junior M.A.F.I.A., The Snakes Trife has this to offer: JM is simply everyone in the crew hitting you from a different angle, trying to get their point across – whether in shootin or mackin. Working together as one unit, the result is the hardcore 15-track bomb, courtesy of Undeas Big Beat/Atlantic.

The point made by Junior M.A.F.I.A.s leadoff single, Players Anthem, is that this crew knows more than flow they come correct with the mentality. Produced by DJ Clark Kent, the track features Little Caesar, Little Kim, and B.I.G. dropping verses in a hard-hitting jam that provides more impact than a car alarm on a 1995 Beamer. The accompanying video brings forth true playa fashion, with JM flying on helicopters and Lear jets while taking care of business under F.B.I. surveillance.

Although The Notorious B.I.G. makes his presence felt on Players Anthem, as well as three more songs on the album, dont make the mistake of sleeping on the rest of the troops skills. Album highlights include Little Kims Back Stabbers, Get Money Oh My Lord, and Trife and Larcenys White Chalk. In addition to Clark Kent, producers Daddy-O, Akshun, and Special Ed also come on board with added flava, making the album one of the most exciting and intriguing debut hip-hop albums of the year. Now thats B.I.G.
