Josh Thompson Performs His First Sold-Out Show As A Headlining Act

Josh Thompson
Josh Thompson
Although Columbia Nashville’s Josh Thompson is spending most of his hot summer days splashing around with Brad Paisley on the H20 World Tour, he often plays his own headlining club shows on his days off. This past weekend, Josh headed to Minneapolis where he was greeted by an over-capacity crowd and performed his first-ever sold-out headlining date at The Cabooze. Only two other acts have sold-out that venue in the past.

Josh’s crowd that night was particularly rowdy, singing along to every song he played, including his current single “Way Out Here.” After he finished his set, the audience didn’t leave until Josh came back for an encore. He informed the crowd that he was going to try out a brand-new song he had written just two weeks before. The crowd listened and by the end of the tune, they were singing along to the chorus.

“As a songwriter and an artist, the biggest payoff you can get is watching people sing your lyrics back at you,” Thompson says of the experience. Josh wrote or co-wrote all 10 songs on his debut album¸ Way Out Here, in stores everywhere.

Paul McCartney “Up and Coming 2010 Tour” back to North America

Paul McCartney
Paul McCartney
Having completed a sold out two night stand at Mexico City’s Foro Sol Stadium, Paul McCartney’s record-breaking Up and Coming 2010 Tour will swing back to North America for a series of July-August dates, including two instant sellouts: July 10 at San Francisco’s AT&T Park and July 13 at Salt Lake City’s Rio Tinto Stadium. Further details of McCartney’s upcoming dates continue to emerge, as the most celebrated performer in popular music will make his first ever Nashville appearance July 26 at the music city’s Bridgestone Area, and will return to Denver (July 15), Kansas City (July 24), Charlotte (July 28), Toronto (August 8), Montreal (August 12) and Pittsburgh (August 18) before the summer is over.

The May 27 and 28 Mexico City dates were attended by over 100,000 of the most enthusiastic McCartney fans on the planet. Featuring the first ever performances in Mexico of The Beatles’ “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da” and the Fireman’s “Highway” and “Sing The Changes,” among numerous other highlights, the twin 2-hour-plus marathon sets found McCartney turning the 100,000-plus-attendance doubleheader into an intimate affair: The first date alone saw a local man’s dream come true as he joined Paul for an impressive soundcheck duet of “I Saw Her Standing There,” while later that night a female fan whose “I Want To Dance On Stage” sign caught Paul’s eye was invited to do just that for an encore of “Get Back.”

Macca will be anything but idle in the month leading up to his next U.S. run: On June 2 The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song was presented to McCartney at a special concert in the East Room of the White House. The performance, featuring Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, Jack White, Dave Grohl, Faith Hill, Elvis Costello, Emmylou Harris and more will air on PBS stations nationwide on Wednesday, July 28 at 8 p.m. EDT (check local listings) as “Paul McCartney: The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song In Performance at the White House.” The Gershwin Prize for Popular Song was created by the Library of Congress to honor artists whose creative output transcends distinctions between musical styles and idioms, bringing diverse listeners together, and fostering mutual understanding and appreciation.

Beginning June 12, McCartney’s Up and Coming Juggernaut will swing through Dublin, the Isle of Wight, Glasgow and Cardiff before concluding with a June 27 headline at London’s Hyde Park.

The Up and Coming 2010 Tour continues to target cities McCartney has never played before as well as historically significant markets from which he’s been absent too long: The July 10 show will be McCartney’s first concert within the city of San Francisco since The Beatles wrapped their last ever tour at Candlestick Park on August 29, 1966, the July 13 date will be McCartney’s first-ever performance in Utah, and July 26 as mentioned will mark McCartney’s Nashville debut. Elsewhere, the July 15 show at Denver’s Pepsi Center and August 8 date at Toronto’s Air Canada Centre will be Paul’s first appearances in both regions in approximately five years, July 24 at Kansas City’s Sprint Center and August 12 at Montreal’s Bell Centre will end a 17- and 20-year absences from those markets respectively, and July 28 at Charlotte NC’s Time Warner Cable Arena marks Macca’s first show in the city since 1993. The current run will conclude with a pair of engagements in Pennsylvania: August 14’s return to the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia and the August 18 opening of Pittsburgh’s Consol Energy Center, on which Paul will christen the new venue with his first Pittsburgh show in over two decades.

McCartney’s live shows have reached a new level of status in recent years, garnering unprecedented reviews from fans and critics alike. He’s pushed boundaries, performed to millions and made global news with monumental shows including performances in Moscow’s Red Square, outside of the Coliseum in Rome, the largest outdoor show ever in the Ukraine, his first performance in Tel Aviv and a live performance transmitted to a NASA space station. The Up and Coming dates, which kicked off in late March, are McCartney’s first U.S. shows since his Summer Live ’09 Tour, which was prefaced by a triumphant sold-out headline set at the 2009 Coachella festival and a surprise Late Show with David Letterman mini-concert on the marquee of the Ed Sullivan Theater (inside which The Beatles made TV history decades ago) that drew throngs packing Broadway from Columbus Circle to Times Square. Summer Live ’09 began in earnest with an already legendary inaugural run of shows at New York’s Citi Field Stadium, the site of the former Shea Stadium where The Beatles played the 1965 concert that set the precedent for the modern-day stadium rock show. The Citi Field shows have since been immortalized on the gold-certified Good Evening New York City CD/DVD, released November 17 2009 by Hear Music/Concord.

Garnering rave reviews the world over, the Up and Coming Tour 2010 set list draws on two-plus hours’ worth of selections spanning the catalogues of The Beatles, Wings and Paul’s solo career, including tracks from The Fireman’s 2008 album, Electric Arguments, and has featured material never before played on U.S. soil.

Stay tuned to PaulMcCartney.com for information on tickets, additional shows and other announcements.

Adelitas Way join Halestorm on tour

Adelitas Way
Adelitas Way
Following consecutive tours with Chevelle and Puddle of Mudd this year, hard-rocking road-warriors Adelitas Way are ready to tour the Midwest with Halestorm in July. The band has already shared dates with the likes of Three Days Grace, Papa Roach, Theory Of A Deadman, Breaking Benjamin and Shinedown.

Adelitas Way’s Virgin Records debut album has garnered success with its current anthemic single, “Last Stand”, paving the way to the mainstream. Plus, the group’s explosive first single, “Invincible”, can be heard as the WWE Superstars theme song and has been featured in trailers for the motion picture “The Losers,” as well as on promo spots for CSI Miami.

Led by frontman Rick DeJesus, the band is grounded by native Californian drummer Trevor Stafford and New-York bred bassist Derek Johnston and includes guitarists Keith Wallen and Creighton Bibbs. It isn’t easy to assemble such a diverse crew—with influences ranging from indie-rock to hardcore to classic rock—but it seems to be paying off as DeJesus explains, “It took a while to find this ideal lineup, where we all want the same thing. And everything finally feels right.”

Ok Go to release “End Love” and announce tour

Ok Go
Ok Go
OK Go will premiere its latest video, “End Love,” at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival this Saturday, June 12th, at the Lunar Stage at approximately 1:20 p.m. EST – just before the USA/England World Cup game. “End Love” will be the first video ever to premiere at the festival. OK Go, who play Bonnaroo this Friday, will performthe song on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” tonight.

The new video will go live next Tuesday, June 15th, at www.okgo.net. OK Go encourages fans to check it out and embed it wherever they please. Details regarding a special “End Love” contest will be announced on the band’s website next week. “End Love”is the latest in a series of videos the GRAMMY®-winning band is creating to accompany the songs on its album, Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky. Like OK Go’s previous clips, “End Love” was shot in one take – but in this instance, the take was 21 hours long. Using time-lapse photography, it follows the band from one day to the next, as they unfurl their sleeping bags at a park near their hometown of Silverlake, CA and kick up their heels the next morning with a group of volunteer dancers.

OK Go, the most-downloaded band ever, will re-release Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky, on June 29th on its own label, Paracadute. It will be distributed in the U.S. by RED, a division of Sony Music Entertainment that is widely recognized as the industry leader in music distribution and artist development, and by ADA in the rest of the world.

“We are thrilled to have OK Go and their label Paracadute in the RED family,” says Bob Morelli, President of RED. “The band is an incredibly groundbreaking cultural phenomenon. The massive success of their ingenious viral videos and innovative live performances is truly unique. We look forward to a wonderful partnership and great sales success together.”

To celebrate the re-release, OK Go is adding two new tracks to Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky- Passion Pit’s remix of current single “This Too Shall Pass,” which was NME’s Download of the Day earlier this year, and “Louisiana Land.” The latter song was inspired by the time the band spent in New Orleans, recording You’re Not Alone with Bonerama, an EP that raised more than half of the money needed to build soul legend Al “Carnival Time” Johnson’s new home in New Orleans after the levy failures that followed Hurricane Katrina.

“This Too Shall Pass” is currently climbing at radio, where it was just added by Atlanta’s WNNX (99x) and Denver’s KTCL. It’s already become the fourth most played song by the band at radio and its third single to debut on the U.S. Alternative chart, after “Here It Goes Again” and “Get Over It.” The band made two videos for “This Too Shall Pass”- a live version filmed with 130 members of the Notre Dame marching band and a second clip, which was shot inside a Rube Goldberg machine created by OK Go and Syyn Labs engineers. The latter, which CNN said “may be the most mesmerizing music video of the year,”has garnered nearly 14 million views and is the #1 Top Rated (All Time) music video on YouTube. Just last night it picked up “The Audience Choice” award for Viral/Web Film at the 2010 AICP (Association of Independent Commercial Producers) Show & NEXT Awards at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. “This Too Shall Pass (Rube Golberg Machine)” is now a part of the archive of the Department of Film at MoMA.Fans can now embed both versions of “This Too Shall Pass” as well as “WTF?”and post them wherever they like on the internet or view them on mobile devices.

Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky, the follow-up to 2005’s Oh No, debuted in the Top 40 of The Billboard 200 earlier this year and earned a 4 ½ star review from Alternative Press, while Spin hailed it as “ambitious” and absolutepunk.net pronounced it “wholly triumphant.” It was produced by ex-Mercury Rev member David Fridmann (Flaming Lips, MGMT).

OK Go – comprising Damian Kulash, Tim Nordwind, Dan Konopka and Andy Ross – is currently on tour. In its recent appearance at Maker Faire, an event sponsored by Make magazine that celebrates DIY scientific efforts, the band utilized water immersion devices to perform underwater. OK Gowill play a slew of festivals both here and abroad over the summer. They’ll also perform at the 6th Annual Switchfoot Bro-Am presented by Hurley. Held June 26th in Encinitas, CA, the event benefits San Diego-area chapters of StandUp For Kids, a national nonprofit volunteer outreach organization dedicated to making a difference in the lives of at-risk, homeless, and street kids. OK Go will play the closing day of the inaugural Life Is Good Festival on September 12th. Set to take place in Canton, MA, a suburb of Boston, the multi-faceted event combines world-class headliners, popular developing bands and the top children’s artists working today. It aims to raise $1 million for kids facing life-threatening challenges through the Life is good Kids Foundation.

Hanson releases “Shout It Out” and tour dates

Hanson
Hanson
HANSON is excited to announce that their new record, Shout It Out, is being released today, June 8, 2010 on the band’s own 3CG Records. Already receiving rave reviews across the board, the album, which was written and produced by HANSON, augmented with special guests: Funk Brothers bassist Bob Babbitt, who played on some of Motown’s greatest hits, as well as horn arranger Jerry Hey, who worked with Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, Earth, Wind and Fire and many more, has firmly re-established the band’s presence for fans and critics alike. Entertainment Weekly called the first single, “Thinking ‘Bout Somethin’” “a delciously, catchy slicy of pop-soul,” while Salon said it “may be their finest moment yet.” The New York Times noted that HANSON “has evolved into a nuanced and largely respected musical outfit,” while AbsolutePunk hailed that Shout It Out is “a decidedly mature dose of pop perfection.” Idolator exclaimed: “Don’t be surprised if there’s a Hanson revival in 2010.”

HANSON will be performing “Thinking ‘Bout Somethin’” on Lopez Tonight tonight and the Today Show on Monday June 14th. They have already performed the song on the Late Show with David Letterman and the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
