Garbage has been a pop band posing as a rock band. Yes, their sound was loud. Yes, it seemed a little raucous. But it was a band of studio rats and a loud-mouthed fiery front woman who spewed their words of gold.
Beautiful Garbage seems extremely disjointed with some semblance of real heart and soul. Who is Garbage? They go from grunge (“Parade”) to dark techno (“Nobody Loves You”) to the glorious punk (“Till The Day I Die”).
The foundation is built on a few songs that are based in pure turmoil: “Drive You Home”, “Can’t Cry These Tears”, and “Silence Is Golden”. You’d think after a few hit albums that Garbage would have found an identity, but it’s not there. Even without a fashionable answer to the surprisingly schizophrenic Beautiful Garbage, it’s still beyond good.
