Krs-One takes on Kirk Franklin’s niche. Christian and hip-hop seem to be about as polar as you can get. Krs-One wants to change that with Spiritual Minded.
The spiritual nature of the album isn’t the complete collapse of Krs-One you might think. But the production sounds like it was done in my basement. “Power” is too much gospel. “Goodbye” tries to find the right key. And “Never Give Up” is like listening to your mom yelling at you, twenty years after you’ve moved out.
There are a few mediocre songs on Spirtual Minded yet nothing completely saving this mess. Krs-One was once the voice of hip-hop, now he’s bringing us to church and I don’t want to go.
