King Kong

King Kong
Game: King Kong
Platform: Xbox
Studio: Ubisoft
Rating: 8/10

GAME DESCRIPTION: Live the epic action of Peter Jackson’s movie King Kong. Play as Jack or Kong in unique, dual-style gameplay. Play in first-person Survival mode as Jack Driscoll: shoot, evade, fight using Skull Island’s hostile environment to your advantage. Launch your destructive power as the iconic ape-monster Kong in third person, from the savage perils of Skull Island to the skyscrapers of New York.

PLAY: King Kong the game follows closely to King Kong the movie. Most of the game follows a strict path so that you stay faithful to the narrative. King Kong is played much like first person shooters. The AI is potent and aggressive. It seems to fit these blood hungry monsters. There is no thought or passiveness to the monsters as they want you dead and will do anything to make sure they satisfy that need.

The controls are straight forward. There are negatives; first there is no inventory and second you can only hold one weapon at a time. Sometimes simplicity is best if you are a kid but true gamers want more options.

GRAPHICS: Not only are the animations gorgeous; they are very tense. When you have the monsters bearing down on you there is a rush. As each monster approached the ground shakes to great effect and intensity.

SOUND: The soundtrack is brilliant and provides a lot of anxiety. The voice acting is fantastic as are the sounds of the dinosaurs. Everything you hear brings an intensity that is unrivaled.

FRANKLY: King Kong looks great—but why is it so short? After eight hours of playing it was over. King Kong is truly a lot of fun. It’s beautiful and the soundtrack is flawless. The problems are the bugs. Occasionally the game will lock up causing us to restart the game. After reading some forums it seems we aren’t the only ones who experienced this problem.

Had King Kong been longer this would have been a must own. Because it’s so short you could rent it Saturday morning and beat it in time to have it back Saturday night—that is a problem.
