Look: The graphics are very similar to the previous version of THPS. There seems to be an overall move into changing the game and making them vaster rather than significantly uping the anti of the previous version. And that is not a knock on the game, if its not broke why fix it? Also you can add some really fun things to your skaters from a wild Viking helmet to tons of choices for shirts, pants, glasses and more. Great addition.
The vast levels and work put into this should be applauded.
Feel: The levels are huge and I mean huge. Remember how the first level was originally a half pipe? Then they made the half pipe bigger in the next version with a few extras and then the last version had the helicopter? Well that was scrapped and for the first level for THPS 4 is absolutely huge. It blows away previous, what we thought were huge, courses. The goals are completely different and don’t necessarily turn the entire course into a timed event. There are little timed goals that you pick up as you skate around. I love this and I’m sure this will set the standard for every similar game to come. New tricks like spine transfers are great additions. Also skitching behind a vehicle is fun.
Hear: Huge soundtrack. The sounds of the game are great and sound very authentic. Boom, whack, ouch! There is clapping when you finish a goal and there are cheers when you are trying to get it done. This game has much to hear and appreciate. And you can’t go wrong with AC/DC’s “TNT”! Fight!
Finally: Again the crew at Activision has upped the anti for every game out there. This is a huge upgrade from the previous version. With so much to explore there is no way you could get bored here for weeks. It’s been days and I’m still going strong and looking forward to earning enough points to move up a level or buy that chicken head.
