CORPORATE LINE: The fright-filled Final Destination franchise returns to theaters in the supernatural thriller Cheating Death: Final Destination 3. Set six years after the original Final Destination film, the latest installment in the series centers around a high school senior who has a premonition of a fatal roller coaster accident involving herself and all her friends. When the premonition proves true, those who have “cheated death” and survived the accident are forced to deal with the repercussions of escaping their fate. Cheating Death: Final Destination 3 stars Ryan Merriman (The Ring Two) and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. The film is directed by James Wong (Final Destination).
THE REVIEW: Those who love violence and enjoyed the previous Final Destination releases will not be let down. Those who aren’t fans of the series might found this to be little more than a B film.
The plot and dialogue make for an extremely weak film that will have little more than a cult following. The formula for Final Destination 3 is to put teens in a situation to get killed in an extremely violent way. That is the long and short of it.
FRANKLY: Final Destination 3 comes up with some creative ways to kill a bunch of kids in an extremely disturbing way. Fans of Saw won’t be impressed but fans of violent films will feel right at home with the third installment. It’s senseless fun—sort of like eating an entire pizza—you can figure that analogy out.
