CORPORATE LINE: Ricky Bobby (Will Ferrell) has always dreamed of driving fast — real fast — like his father, Reese Bobby, who left the family to pursue his racing dreams. Early on, Ricky’s mother, Lucy Bobby worried that her boy was also destined to end up as a professional daredevil on wheels.
Ricky Bobby first enters the racing arena as a “jackman” for slovenly driver Terry Cheveaux and accidentally gets his big break behind the wheel when Cheveaux makes an unscheduled pit stop during a race to gorge on a chicken sandwich. Ricky jumps into the car and…so begins the ballad of Ricky Bobby.
THE REVIEW: Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly are a fantastic comedic duo. These two are maddening and it’s hilarious. Sacha Baron Cohen is equally entertaining as the French driver Jean Girard who marches around with his blonde bimbo wife.
Talladega Nights sticks close to other Will Ferrell movies—mostly Anchorman. The plotline so closely resembles Anchorman that you might think they exchanged the office chair for a race car.
FRANKLY: Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby is funny. That is all that matters. Weak plotlines and silly scenarios don’t matter as long as you leave laughing. Will Ferrell movies are never guaranteed to offer endless laughs. Not many movies can. Thankfully, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby is a laugh-fest and the duo of Ferrell and Reilly have a big hand in that.
