Former Oasis front man Liam Gallagher made a whirlwind trip to the United States this week to promote the launch of his new clothing line Pretty Green. This morning he also woke up to the news that Q Magazine and it’s readers have rightfully appointed him as The Greatest Frontman Of All Time, topping an impressive list of rock n’roll icons, beating the likes of the great John Lennon and voted by thousands of Q Magazine readers. This week, Liam made a fleeting visit to discuss various recent goings on in his world, his plans of releasing an album with the band, as well as to promote his new men’s-wear collection, Pretty Green, which is now available to purchase in US Dollars with all duties paid via www.prettygreen.com.
Pretty Green is a collection celebrating the iconography and the evolution of style throughout rock and roll history, from the early Sixties to this present day. Launching in the US for Spring/Summer 10 Pretty Green offers a range of classic British style “must-haves” from fitted stripped blazers, to a spectrum of button up shirt’s, fine cashmere knits, and 100% Egyptian cotton T’s, as well as unique accessories consisting of scarves and hats. Pretty Greens’ version of the desert boot will be launched in July in collaboration with the prestigious and classic footwear aficionados Clarks Originals.
The design sensibilities of the Spring/Summer collection clearly sway toward and draw inspiration from Brit-mod culture. Saluting eras defined not only by their respective decades but also by those who helped change them, with a little help from their sound, style and swagger.
The highly regarded and respected Nick Holland, of Holland Esq. has contributed his traditional tailoring sensibilities and skills towards the designs inspired and developed by Liam. “The two main passions of my life have always been music and clothes” says Gallagher when explaining why he decided to start the line. It’s apparent that his infamous no-nonsense and common sense approach, combined with his instincts and taste for “good clobber”, coupled with Holland’s tailoring detail, provides a win-win situation. The results showcase Gallagher’s knack for style and design along with Holland’s ability to tailor-create these classic items into a timeless, stylish and sharp collection.
Last year the label launched in the UK to huge critical and commercial acclaim, the demand for the collection reached far beyond expectations, and selling out the entire line first month of its launch, resulting in the prestigious UK store Selfridges putting in repeat orders for the line.
Gallagher’s absolute sincerity, when he reveals his love and passion for style is undeniable, and something he has possessed since he was a young teen; “Clothes and music are my passion. I’m not here to rip anyone off and I’m not doing it for the money either. I’m doing it cuz there’s a lack of stuff out there of the things I would wear”. Now setting his sights on North America, not only to launch the line but also considering a move to New York City sometime soon “I buzz off the energy of New York, people just get on with it…” and after the immense success of Pretty Green in Europe and Japan, Liam’s ready again to shift his attention to the United States for 2010.
Having sold millions of records and played to sold out arenas and stadiums around the globe, if anyone should know a thing or two about style and swagger, it would be the former front-man from one of the worlds biggest bands of the past two-decades.
Pretty Green is now available in US$ via www.prettygreen.com from today.
