The original release came only a few years after I was brought into the world. I’ve heard the original, mostly out of curiosity over its huge success. It was Frampton’s attempt to bring all of his previous material together as he toured the country. It was wildly successful, selling close to twenty million copies and being the pinnacle of Peter Frampton’s career.
Now we celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of Frampton Comes Alive. A release of that magnitude seems to have disappeared. In a time when the Beatles are number one again with re-issued songs, you have to wonder if Frampton can follow.
Frampton was dogged because his music was looked down upon as cheesy, shameless pop. But can we deny so many huge hits? Everyone has heard “Do You Feel Like We Do”, “Show Me The Way”, and, of course, “Baby, I Love Your Way” once or twice in our life times. And they sound fantastic here as the crowd allows Frampton to bring them to life.
The reason to buy this album if you are a music lover isn’t necessarily for the previously mentioned hits. There are other fantastic songs, like “Penny For Your Thoughts” and “Doobie Wah”. Frampton wasn’t only a great songwriter, but a fantastic guitar player. You get all that and more on this shining moment in time.
