India.Arie came from nowhere and lit up the world of R&B. Voyage To India may have been rushed in order to capitalize on her success.
Love It:
“Slow Down” and “Little Things” – Both are lovely.
“The One” – Might remind you a bit of Tracy Chapman.
“The Truth” – A gorgeous celebration of unconditional love.
“Good Man” – Not given much time when it appeared on We Were Soldiers soundtrack, it should get much more attention here.
Like It:
“Get It Together” – A fine love song.
“Talk To Her” – Can come off too preachy.
“Headed In The Right Direction” – Right in the middle this track breaks up what could have been a very monotonous record.
Skipped It:
“Can I Walk With You” – Flat.
It’s hard to find fault with India.Arie. Even when the tracks seem to be slim they are still a step taller than most R&B records that are released from week to week. However it wouldn’t be too much harm to say you expected more from such a raising star. There are things that dog this voyage and it’s the preachiness, which often sounds silent but heavy-handed.
