Olive has been compared to a crossbreeding of Miles Davis and Massive Attack. I just hear straight up good music. But the name is all wrong. If Olive were food, it’d be sponge cake with strawberries and whipped cream. There’d be no calories and you’d never get sick to your stomach or filled up.
I guess that gives you a good visual, but Olive offers so much more. Each song really has no true way to be described if you want to maintain the integrity of the music. This band is rich with fantastic beats and the lovely voice of Ruth-Ann. It’s obvious why Maverick mother Madonna signed them. Olive’s first album, Extra Virgin, probably partially inspired Madonna’s Ray Of Light.
If I had to cut a few slices to save under plastic wrap, they’d be “I’m Not Love”, “Speak To Me”, “Liberty”, and “Love Affair”. Yum!
