Corporate Line: Ghosts stands with its head in the clouds and its roots firm in that Wheaton basement. Even now, with the future opening wide before Sleeping At Last, Ryan, Chad, and Dan are probably down there again, in the glow of the Christmas lights they strung up around their practice area, getting ready to deliver these songs onstage, to excite new fans far from home.
The Good:
N/A
The Average:
“Ghosts” and “Hurry” – Sentimental hogwash. They have stolen a Brit-rock symbol of eloquence and made it suffer.
“Say” – I didn’t know the Goo Goo Dolls were performing under a different name. Opps, they aren’t. If this isn’t a rip off then I don’t know how you define one.
“Currents” – Still not convinced these guys are any better than hundreds of other rock bands.
“Everyone” – Not entirely bad. The biggest problem with these guys is you can’t fall in love with imposters. Just listen to “Brightly” and you’ll see what I mean. They aren’t Radiohead even if they try really hard to be. “Slowly, Now” finds them doing their best to be Coldplay yet it never seems right and it’s not.
The Ugly:
N/A
Frankly: Sleeping At Last are no Coldplay nor Radiohead. They are from Chicago but they desire nothing worse than to be a Brit-rock band, well that is when they aren’t trying to be the Goo Goo Dolls. They aren’t either. Sleeping At Last is a stairway away from being themselves and even then we can’t be sure who they’ll be.
