Naruto
Game: Naruto
Platform: Gamecube
Studio: Tomy
Rating: 7/10

GAME DESCRIPTION: Ready to get schooled? This isn?t just any school. At Ninja Academy, students are instructed in such arcane and deadly subjects as summoning a doppelganger, casting illusions, and throwing deadly blades known as shuriken. Now you can fight in an arena style competition as Naruto, Sakura, Sasuke and others and square off against rivals, friends and villains. Viewed as a clown by his peers and a threat by his superiors, Naruto, a young orphan and student at the Ninja Academy has one goal, to become the greatest Ninja alive and earn the respect of the village. Unbeknownst to Naruto, the story of his birth is dark and ominous and great power lies dormant within him hidden behind his foolish pranks.

PLAY: There are different modes: story, arcade, survival, and two players. The main feature of Naruto is fighting. It’ll keep you coming back for more. The story mode is extremely short. Thankfully versus mode will give gamers a good dose of replay. The story mode should have been deeper—it could have easily been twice as long. The arcade mode offers the most replay—aside from verses. Survival mode is a string of fights that continue until you lose.

The controls are fluid and offer a great level of control. Fighting is done by joy stick while most of the mashing is limited to two buttons. Naruto is quick paced and exciting. Each character has a special combo that isn’t difficult to master. The many different characters and styles adds and major amount of reply just to see how different the characters perform.

GRAPHICS: Naruto has some amazing graphics. The intros are fantastic with the anime exploding on screen. Details aren’t lost as the anime looks brilliant while inserting cool effects such as dust flying around the screen.

SOUND: The voice acting is good while the score is directly from the show.

FRANKLY: Naruto: Clash of Ninja doesn’t have a lot of depth—however there is plenty of replay. Fans of anime will enjoy the chance to control the characters rather than just watching.
