GAME DESCRIPTION: World Soccer Winning Eleven 9 is intense, fast-paced soccer simulation. Bring the spirit of international soccer to your Xbox, with a virtual soccer experience that’s second to none. Play with and against the world’s best players and teams — and combine their individual strengths to create a Winning Eleven. The graphics and gameplay are so realistic that you’ll almost feel like you’re out on the pitch! Choose to play 136 club teams and 57 national teams – over 4,500 of the world’s greatest players in all Advanced referee AI reacts like a real ref – He runs up & down the field, reacting to fouls, giving advantage for minor infringements and even stepping in to break up a fight Enhanced Training Mode helps beginners learn soccer basics and master the depth of international soccer.
PLAY: Out of the box Winning Eleven 9 feels like Winning Eleven 8. In reality there are many new additions to this new incarnation and at the same time they didn’t change what was already near perfect.
The training mode is fantastic. It’s the best way to jump right into the action—especially if you don’t always understand the nuisances of soccer. The franchise mode, Master League, is where you’ll spend most of your time. Not only will you enjoy playing but building a better team.
With 138 clubs and 57 teams you won’t run out of options. Players have tons of moves at their disposal. The depth of your players moves are amazing if you can learn all of them.
GRAPHICS: Winning Eleven 9 is barely different from Winning Eleven 8. The best parts of the visuals are the animated cutscenes. The players faces look quite good but nothing compared to the next-gen Xbox 360.
SOUND: The commentary by Peter Brackley and Trevor Brooking is the usual fare. The commentary isn’t too indepth—offering a few names and generic insight. The rest of the game has some decent crowd noise that changes with the game and what is happening on the field.
FRANKLY: There isn’t much that sours the gameplay of Winning Eleven 9. The only weak point is the lack of licenses. The addition of online play is great and worth the upgrade. Honestly the online play feels like the only addition to the new franchise. If you won’t be playing World Eleven online you can stick with version 8.
