Corporate Line: Geophysicist Dr. Josh Keyes (Eckhart) discovers that an unknown force has caused the Earth’s inner core to stop rotating. With the planet’s magnetic field rapidly deteriorating, our atmosphere literally starts to come apart at the seams with catastrophic consequences. To resolve the crisis, Keyes, along with a team of the world’s most gifted scientists, travel into the Earth’s core in a subterranean craft piloted by “terranauts,” Major Rebecca “Beck” Childs (Swank) and Colonel Robert Iverson (Greenwood). Their mission: detonate a device that will reactivate the core.
The Good: Are you kidding?
The Bad: It’s hard to swallow such a cast of good actors/actresses doing this film. Bottom line? Money. And it really is a shame that money talks before quality. A huge budget for special effects couldn’t save what is a terrible script and unwatchable film. They stick some pretty faces in front of us and hope we’ll believe they are scientists and so on but it doesn’t work because bad is bad. Studios need to stop pretending that we can’t tell the difference.
What is more insulting is how the characters die in an always predictable order. How asinine are these writers? I’m curious if the writers wondered if they could slip one big turkey by us. The hacker is beyond dumb, since when is the internet the only source of news? Idiots. The science is sixth grade science fair quality.
Frankly: Watch the Discovery channel.
