Eight Legged Freaks

Eight Legged Freaks
Cast: David Arquette
Studio: Warner Bros.
Rating: 6/10

The Film Studio Synopsis: What do you get when you cross toxic waste with a bunch of exotic spiders? Eaten. As every fan of classic spine-tinglers knows, given the opportunity and the right chemical enhancement, arachnids will grow to humongous size and wreak havoc upon humanity. In EIGHT LEGGED FREAKS, the residents of a rural mining town discover that an unfortunate chemical spill has caused hundreds of little spiders to mutate overnight to the size of SUVs. And they’re hungry.

The Good: If there were a need for ‘50’s style monster movies then this has filled the void nicely. Personally I get a kick out of those films when I get a chance to see them. Eight Legged Freaks is more about dousing you with laughter rather than making you screech with terror. Of course the spiders look more realistic today than they did back in the ‘50’s but it doesn’t take away from the fun.

Kari Wuhrer is damn good as the town Sheriff.

The Bad: The subtle plot line and supposed dynamic between David Arquette’s character and the Sheriff. There are plenty of lines that fail, but plenty that work.

Frankly: Good for a laugh. If you don’t try to take it too seriously you’ll be sure to enjoy it.
