Red Dragon

Red Dragon
Cast: Edward Norton
Studio: Universal
Rating: 7/10

The Film Studio Synopsis: In this prequel to “The Silence of the Lambs,” the story of former FBI agent Will Graham, who was nearly killed by Hannibal Lecter, is told, and it includes the initial capture of “The Cannibal.”

The Good: It has some good scary moments. Ralph Fiennes is the Tooth Fairy. Sounds lovely right? Well he is downright scary. Fiennes would kick the crap out of Buffalo Bill from Lambs, although not as interesting. Seymour Hoffman picks up what could have been a throw away part as a tabloid journalist and makes it interesting.

But it is Fiennes and Emily Watson who plays the Tooth Fairy’s unknowing blind love interest.

Hopkins as Lecter isn’t as scary as he once was in the past. It must be hard playing yourself ten years later and even younger.

The Bad: Edward Norton seems almost completely out of his element. I never bought him as Will Graham FBI.

Frankly: Comparing Manhunter and Red Dragon would be easy, so I won’t. I will say that this film has scary moments, enough to cause me to wake up a few times last night and look around and wonder what might be lurking in the dark.
