Gym Class Heroes have announced details of their upcoming co-headline tour with The Roots. The North American schedule – which features support from Homeschool/Atlantic Records R&B sensation Estelle – will begin on October 3rd at Baltimore’s Rams Head Live! and then traverse the continent through a November 1st finale at Albany, New York’s Washington Avenue Armory (see attached itinerary).
Pre-sale tickets will be available tomorrow, August 12th, for all members of Gym Class Heroes’ official fan club, The Varsity Club (http://thevarsityclub.net). In addition to tickets, members receive a chance to gain early entry to the venue as well as a meet-and-greet with the band. All remaining tickets for the tour will then go on sale to the general public on August 15th and 16th. Furthermore, one dollar from each ticket sold will be donated to The Boys & Girls Club of Geneva (www.GenevaBGC.com) and The Triple Threat Foundation (www.triplethreatphilly.com)
The tour celebrates the release of Gym Class Heroes’ hugely anticipated fourth album, “THE QUILT.” The collection – which follows 2006’s RIAA gold-certified breakthrough, “AS CRUEL AS SCHOOL CHILDREN” – arrives in stores and at online retailers on September 9th. “THE QUILT” is available now for pre-order via the Fueled By Ramen webstore, http://store.fueledbyramen.com.
“THE QUILT” is highlighted by the first single, “Cookie Jar.” Produced by The-Dream (Rihanna, Usher, Chris Brown), the track is currently ascending the charts at multi-format radio outlets nationwide, including CHR/Top 40, Urban, and Rhythmic. “Cookie Jar” is available now at all digital retailers. The track’s companion video — directed by Dale “Rage” Resteghini (Lil Wayne, Jim Jones, The Game) – will have its television premiere on MTV’s new FNMTV on August 15th at 8 PM.
Furthermore, “Cookie Jar” is featured on the iTunes Store’s exclusive EP, “PATCHES FROM THE QUILT.” The EP includes a trio of tunes from “THE QUILT,” including “Peace Sign/Index Down (Feat. Busta Rhymes).” That track is looking like another major hit for Gym Class Heroes – the “Peace Sign/Index Down” companion video is currently the #1 Most Streamed clip at MTV2.com, having just been added into rotation at mtvU and MTV Hits. The video – also directed by Resteghini – has also just entered rotation at BET’s Rap City and can be viewed online at the Official Fueled By Ramen YouTube Channel, located at http://www.youtube.com/user/FueledByRamen.
Gym Class Heroes – currently spending their summer as headliners on the Vans Warped Tour – will be featured on the cover of Alternative Press and profiled in a wide array of upcoming national publications, including Spin, Vibe, Blender, Complex, Giant, CosmoGirl, King, Maxim, Rolling Stone, and Playboy.
“THE QUILT” sees Gym Class Heroes teaming up with a number of extraordinary collaborators. In addition to The-Dream, producers include Cool & Dre (Yung Joc, Young Jeezy, The Game) and the Geneva, NY-based band’s longtime friend and collaborator, Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy. What’s more, “THE QUILT” features special guest contributions from the one-and-only Busta Rhymes, UK soul sensation Estelle, and the legendary Daryl Hall.
Acclaimed for their unique approach to alternative hip-hop, Gym Class Heroes became an international sensation in 2007 with their #1 blockbuster hit, “Cupid’s Chokehold/Breakfast In America.” The track was a multiple chart-topping crossover smash and catapulted “AS CRUEL AS SCHOOL CHILDREN” to RIAA gold certification for sales exceeding 500,000.
The band was named “Best New Artist” at 2007’s MTV Video Music Awards, beating out such stars as Amy Winehouse and Carrie Underwood. GCH were all over music television, with live performances and videos for such tracks as the anthemic “Clothes Off!” appearing on MTV, its affiliated networks, and FUSE. Additional Gym Class Heroes TV appearances included performances on NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Late Night with Conan O’Brien, ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
A remarkably dedicated live act, Gym Class Heroes have toured nearly non-stop in recent years. In addition to headlining a number of packed-out tours, the band played at countless festivals and radio-sponsored shows, and shared stages with Fall Out Boy and Gwen Stefani.
Gym Class Heroes are: Travis McCoy (lead vocalist), Disashi Lumumba-Kasongo (guitarist), Eric Roberts (bassist), and Matt McGinley (drummer).
