Formed in England in 1983 by singer Ian Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy, the band has had many highs and lows, but now they are back after a seven-year absence with Beyond Good And Evil.
Astbury still sports his signature-gnarled voice and he opens us up with “War” giving us metal at its most melodic. “Rise” again pushes the melodic mark. If anything The Cult never runs from what they do best.
The Cult still have the grit and they can still muster up enough to kick most bands asses today. There is a but here though. Beyond Good And Evil lacks any of the real memorable tracks that The Cult have been best known for. So you have your pick, a pretty solid album full of decent tracks or an album that has a few big hits and the rest is average. The Cult gives you something solid, but often a bit too average.
