Small talk with Brooke Allison.

What are you up to?

Nothing. Just chilling out.

What is a typical day like for you now?

I just got off the 98 degrees tour, so I’m doing nothing for a few days and then I’m back out doing radio shows.

Was it fun touring with 98 Degrees?

Definitely.

Is performing different now?

Yeah, because people now know the words to my songs.

You were discovered on the MP3.com site?

Yeah.

Whose idea was it to put your songs up there?

The girl who worked for my manager at the time put me up there.

What song was up there?

It was an original song that my manager at the time had written for me.

Was the studio a new experience for you?

I had really been in the studio my entire life.

Were you always doing pop music?

I’ve always done different kinds of music, but growing up I started in country music. I grew up in Texas so it was bigger, but I discovered pop music and started really getting into that.

Who do you see today that you emulate?

Celine Dion. I’ve looked up to her my entire life.

For?

Her amazing voice and I’ve heard she is really sweet. I like the idea that she can have so much talent and still be really nice.

Had you always been in the business growing up?

I’ve been in the music business since I was three. I’ve been all around Texas, but this is a bit different today.

How have your friends reacted?

They’ve been really supportive.

Do they ever ask you to tell someone that you might meet, like 98 Degrees, that they like them or something like that?

(laughs) Yeah, all the time.

Do you act like a fan when you meet them too?

I try not to act like it, but I still get starstruck. (laughs)

Do you like the thought of being a role model?

I think that would be cool if that happened.

Do you get nervous onstage?

I’ve never been nervous. I feel more comfortable on stage than even hanging out at the mall.

Are you the same person on stage as off?

I used to be really, really shy. I’m not so much anymore because I deal with people a lot more than I used to, but when I was shy I would be quiet before and change on stage.

Michael Jackson is quoted as saying something like your voice is a gift from god. How did he come to hear you?

I’ve been friends with the Jackson family my entire life.

Was it a big deal still when he said that?

It was something he didn’t have to do. He’s a very nice guy.

With “The Kiss Off (Goodbye)”, are you hoping to get AOL for life for free?

(laughs) I hope so.

It must be nice to have email on the road so that you can contact friends.

Definitely.

Do you keep in contact with fans on your website.

I hang out on the message boards where fans can ask questions and stuff like that.
