Corporate Line: There’s a wise and sky-wide generous spirit to Wheat’s new album Per Second, Per Second, Per Second…Every Second you can hear it loud and clear in the soaring, impassioned vocals on “Life Still Applies,” the rollin’ and tumblin’ drums on “World United,” the strutting, glammy guitar licks on “Closer to Mercury.” In a world gone suddenly and deeply dark, Wheat has turned on a light.
The Good:
“I Met A Girl” – Not the usual drab rock and roll. Good by default? Not exactly.
“These Are Things” – Finally Wheat separate themselves from the pack – even if they have a good deal of Weezer in them.
The Average:
“Breathe” – Not great, not yet.
“Go Get The Cops” – It isn’t the greatest mellow song you’ll ever hear but for some reason I listened to it a few times.
“Closer To Mercury” – Too Weezer for its own good.
The Ugly:
It’s not that bad.
Frankly: Wheat isn’t much of a name. Wheat bread isn’t bad to eat. Wheat the band, well, their taste is a bit staler.
